Interview Tips

If you have been successful in getting yourself an interview, you now need to know how to handle an interview in such a way as to give yourself the best chance of getting the job.

You need to follow the next few easy steps

Step 1:

Be on time.

Not late or early, on time. nothing is more irritating hta a person who shows disrespect by arriving late without notifying anyone of their problem or a person that arrives way too early (more htan 5 minutes) and then sits around waiting for the interview to start.

Step 2:

Dress for success.

This is particularly important if you are going into a corporate envoronment. Ladies – do your hair and make up, wear heels and a neat suit or outfit, a dress to the knee is best. Gents – a neat short hair style and suit, with a tie if its very corporate. And no smoking! This sounds harsh, but cigarette smoke stinks no matter what yo do.

Step 3:

Be prepared.

Even ifyou are not told to, take copies of all your documentation like your ID, drivers license and CV with you. Also make sure you know what hte company is all about. It looks really stupid if you go in there thinking hte copmany does one thing when they are actually involved in a completely different field.

Step 4:

Have the right attitude

You do not have the job yet! Make sure you display the correct, confident body language.

  • Meet their eyes, but do not stare – you want to appear honest, not insane
  • Have a firm handshake, but do not crush their hands, especially if it is a lady interviewing you.
  • Stand up straight – it makes you seem more confident and reliable.
  • Do not put your hands in your pockets – this makes you slouch and as if you have something to hide.
  • Be relaxed – even if you are nervous, do not sit like a statue and do not fidget either. Try and be natural
Step 6:

Ask questions

No, not about salary, let them bring that up. Ask about the copmany and how the heirarchy works and what the job description actually entails and anything else you might be curious about.

Step 7:

Be grateful

When the interview is done, stand up and thank them for their time.

A successful interview is dependent on having the right attitude and being honest. Do not overinflate your abilites, you will only be a disappointment if you get the job.

Good Luck!
