If you do a search on the internet for a keyword like “jobs”, for example, you will be presented with hundreds of thousands of pages that offer advertising to variuos comanies for their vacanices. The trick, for the applicant, is to apply to the right jobs with the right kind of attitude. Step 1:Decide what kind of job you are looking for. This will have a large influence on how many applications you can send out. For positions which require less skill or education, such as a receptionist or juior salesperson, you can find hundreds of places to apply to, more specialised fields will obviously yeild fewer results. Then do you want to aim for a position which requires no experience (junior), a position which requires only a little experience (intermediate) or are you an expert in your field? Step 2:Decide on a salary that you would like to earn. Do not make it too high or companies will not consider you for their vacancies. do a little research and find out what you are actually worth. you can look on job advertisements to get an idea of what people are offering for your expertise. The more junior you are, the less you will earn. Step 3:Decide how far you are willing to travel. This will cut out a lot of options for you, particularly if you are not willing to travel very far. Step 4:Now you need a CV to send out to all the recruitment agencies and other businesses who are looking for employees. Make sure you make it detailed and acurate. You will not get a job if you lie about what you are capable of, or if you do, you will quickly find yourself out on your ear. Do not include pictures unless the advert specifically requests one. All they do is take up space. Start with your personal details, followed by your education, then your skills matrix (especially for things like IT), then your work experience and finally your references. List everything from most recent to oldest. Basic CV Template Step 5:Once you have done all of this, it is time to search. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to do this, it may not be an easy task to find the kind of job you are looking for in the area you are looking to work in. Step 6:Once you have found a whole load of advertisiements that sound appropriate, take a little time to read through them carefully. Make sure you fulfill at least 90% of the job requirements. Anything less andyou will be wasting both your time and the recruiters time by applying. Step 7:Send your CV. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE JOB POST CAREFULLY!! There is nothing more irritating than having dozens of non-applicable CVs come through to your mail box when you explicitly asked applicants to fax their CV. Step 8:Wait with patience. It takes time for recruiters to go through all the CVs they receive each day. If you are suitable for the job and they are interested in interviewing you, they will contact you. If you can just follow these easy steps you will find that you get a lot more calls regarding your application than if you just randomly send out a badly set up CV to anything and everything where you meet one of the requirements. |
